Our family (2 adults, 2 children under 10) had the good fortune to stay at the "The Apothecary's Residence" in November, 2019. We were excited to visit Cluny, but had not expected that our lodging would be such a hit (with us and the kids). This beautiful modern self-contained apartment is located on the second floor of a medieval building at the centre of the city, minutes away from key historical sites and great food. We also used it as a base to drive into other parts of Burgundy and parking was easy (and free) and getting out of town was a cinch.
The location is superb, but the apartment itself is a gem. There are two large rooms decorated with antiques and recently fitted out with all the modern conveniences you might want. Our children enjoyed the record player (and the loads of records) having dance parties every evening. The kitchen was stocked with everything you might need. And there was a library with all the books about the history of Cluny you might read.
The host, Jean-Denis, moreover, was a superb host, using his connections to get us into historical sites that were closed, and giving us the inside picture of the town and its famous abbey. I can't recommend this place highly enough!
